Hi! My name is Daud, I am originally from Africa where we played soccer on the streets with mashed paperbags or tying a bunch of socks together to act as our soccer ball. Playing soccer in the rain and in the mud are probably one of my most fond memories as a child.
I grew up in a family that also has love for the game—my dad, uncles, and everyone around me was very passionate about soccer.
I remember my dad telling my cousins and I how skillful players like Zico, Socrates, Tostoa were and they played and influenced the game. The amazing thing was that he could get into details and describe the games without having watched them but just by listening to the commentators describing the games on the radio.
Growing up in such an environment, my love for soccer kept growing. I started playing soccer with my cousins and friends when I was still a young boy. It’s also the only sport I played during my teenage life. I love to watch and follow the big leagues, premier league, La liga and etc. The passion is still burning, and I really enjoy being involved in the game whichever way it is.
I enjoy passing on my love for the game to my family, especially my son and I’m humbled that we have some pretty great memories bonding over it.
So then how did this passion evolve into a soccer team?
I’d visited a soccer club with my son who was 6 years old back then. During a meeting I picked up a few things pretty quickly—both good and bad. But one thing that struck me the most however, was a parent who was very frustrated because the kids weren’t taught how to actually play the game. “All they do is run after the ball without direction!” he said. However, his concern was shut down by the president “yes, that is fine. We just want the kids to have fun for now.”
For parents who wanted more for their kids’ development that was just unacceptable but everyone felt their hands were tied. A year or two later, I experienced the same thing in a different club. Fancy uniforms and some fun, but no actual awareness of skills training for the game. There is absolutely nothing wrong with kids having fun, but I kept wondering why the kids can’t have both. Why not introduce the concept of the game with appropriate skills training all while having fun? And voila, Stallions Soccer Club, an inspiring place where kids can learn, play, and grow in the game was born!
Why the Name Stallions Soccer Club?
The word “Stallions” simply comes from the famous movie series “Rocky Balboa.” Coach Daud has been a HUGE fan all his life always looking to the movies for inspiration and a no-give-up attitude. That’s all it is contrary to the assumption we face once in a while, assuming that ours is a boys-only team because of the name Stallions. Every one is welcome 🙂
Current Team Goals
Even though we’ve been hit and challenged by COVID-19 just like everyone else, and that has set us back a bit, we still rose above things creatively and launching some free virtual training that kids can do right at home! Join us in our sessions held every Saturday and posted on social media. Share it with your family and friends as well—and together, let’s keep the fire and love of soccer burning.
